Star-crossed lovers could just say goodbye
Accepting their dreams will never fly
Walking away and acknowledging their fate
Lest sorrow bloom and love turn to hate.

And I don't understand; it's so unromantic!
They'll grasp at straws, try anything, frantic.
Weave so tight a web one will soon lose their life
Doom the other to death in the loss of his wife.

Call me crazy, but love shouldn't be hard.
Hence my slowly increasing disrespect for the bard.
And I hate half the world for loving a beast
DON'T DATE A VAMPIRE! Your lover, his feast.

I don't see why we glamorize torture and pain
I know *I* didn't enjoy it when I cried in the rain
And those moments are nothing without the sad song
Eventually you have to let life move along.

And screaming in pain only gets you so far
(The same goes for "romantic" sex in your car)
You can't live on the edge without taking a fall
And there WON'T be a payoff, even if you "give it your all."

I despise this culture that we've built on lies
Even models use photoshop. You think those're REALLY her eyes?
And the things we find sexy simply can't be done.
Hours of CGI rather dampen the fun.

You believe all those stories and soon you'll be lost.
(Don't think that's romantic. Those truths were embossed.)
And don't expect a white knight to ride up on a horse.
They're banned from most cities. Ordinances, of course.

The music sounds good and the clothes feel so strong
But you can't live your life in the words of a song
There's no way around it; some things have to end
As you grow, life always takes some proverbial bends.

But that's not the message Hollywood hands to you as you leave!
They say everything's perfect, so long as you *believe.*
Life just doesn't work like you see on the screen
Everyone knows it, but realists are still "mean."

And as a writer, I also pedal this crap!
Maybe I, like Jack Sparrow, have been deserving that slap.
I also tell people the lies they want to hear
Words usually beat television, but not this time, I fear.

Because, really, how long as Shakespeare been hanging around?
It's like he crashed in my English class, forever ran aground.
But it can't possibly be love in one day and one night!
Their parents were right to have put up a fight.

Oh, I don't know! Maybe it's not really that bad.
SOME shows are decent, for which I am glad.
But I still can't forget that we've got Jersey Shore.
And that virgins are shunned; it's "cool" to be a whore.

I suppose society has never been quite right.
Remember when slavery caused that big fight?
And now it's gay marriage that's causing the fit.
So... it's not cause for panic. That doesn't mean I like it.
This started about twenty minutes ago, when I had two rhyming words in my head that wanted to be written down.
It rambles a bit. I tired to make it mean something, but I'm not sure how well I did.

Funny references... But yes, scarily true.
